CHP figure cites donation campaign launched by Bahçeli as example: 'It proves the government's failures'
Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahçeli launched the '9 Gülek Wheat on Hold' project to support low-income citizens. CHP's Erhan Adem emphasized that the campaign highlights existing problems and stressed the need for permanent solutions in agriculture.
Announcing the '9 Gülek Wheat on Hold' project, MHP leader Bahçeli led the way by making the first contribution to the project. The project aims for farmers to support those in need with the wheat they produce. The MHP invited all farmers to join this solidarity movement. CHP Deputy Chairman responsible for the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry Erhan Adem referred to the MHP's project and argued that the government is implementing incorrect agricultural policies. Pointing to the project launched by Bahçeli as proof of his claim, Adem noted that organizing donation campaigns instead of supporting farmers is not sustainable.
Bahçeli also touched upon the cost issues farmers face in their agricultural activities. The MHP leader stated that resolving these difficulties is primarily the responsibility of the institutions that carry out agricultural policies.
In his statement during the promotion of the project, Bahçeli expressed the following:
''Our farmers' agricultural production is the most legitimate source of income, obtained without fraud or waste as a blessing from Almighty Allah. With this project, we aim to contribute to the nutrition of the children of our low-income citizens.''

CHP Deputy Chairman Erhan Adem
ERHAN ADEM CRITICIZED AGRICULTURAL POLICIES
In his assessment of the project, Adem reported that farmers are struggling in production due to rising costs, while citizens are having difficulty accessing basic food items. The CHP figure pointed to the necessity of permanent and radical reforms.
Drawing attention to the shortcomings in agricultural policies, Adem used the following expressions:
'We should have been talking about wheat in abundance, not wheat on hold. The farmer cannot make a living from what they produce, and the citizen is becoming dependent on bread. When agricultural policies have gone bankrupt, the solution cannot be donation campaigns. Import-based policies and practices that do not support the farmer have moved our country away from being a self-sufficient agricultural economy. A system that encourages the farmer to donate instead of producing is not sustainable.'
Claiming that this point was reached as a result of the government's wrong agricultural policies, Adem added the following to his words:
'To get out of this picture, radical reforms are needed, not temporary solutions. For a Turkey where farmers and citizens are in prosperity, production increases, and food security is ensured, we must stop seeing agriculture as a matter of aid and take steps that encourage production.'
