Weight and limit changes in mail and cargo

The Ministry of Trade has implemented significant changes to the communiqué regarding customs procedures for goods transported via mail and express cargo. With the new regulation published in the Official Gazette, the weight and monetary limits applicable to customs procedures for goods carried by mail and express cargo companies have been redefined.

Accordingly, the gross weight limit for express cargo transportation has been increased from the previous level of 300 kilograms to 600 kilograms. The monetary upper limit, which was previously 1,500 euros, will now be 3,000 euros. This provides a broader framework in terms of both the maximum volume permitted per shipment and the value of the goods.

Within the scope of the changes, the total weight limit applied to goods transported by postal services has also been raised from 300 kilograms to 600 kilograms. In terms of monetary value, the maximum amount payable per shipment has been increased from 15 thousand euros to 30 thousand euros.

Furthermore, under the new regulation that will come into effect, mail and express cargo companies will be required to employ at least two customs brokers, or ensure that at least two customs brokers are assigned, to ensure the smooth execution of customs procedures. Alternatively, companies will be able to enter into a contract with a customs brokerage firm covering at least two brokers.

The communiqué will enter into force 90 days after its publication date.
