What is the projected increase for civil servant and pension salaries?
December inflation will be announced on January 3. The salary increase rates for civil servants and retirees will also become clear. So, what kind of an increase is projected?
The Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) will announce the December inflation data on Wednesday, January 3, at 10:00 AM.
According to TÜİK data, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 3.28 percent in November compared to the previous month, while consumer prices rose by 33.66 percent in the July-November period. Thus, the 6 percent raise rate applied to salaries was exceeded in the 5-month period, creating a situation where an inflation difference payment is required.
In accordance with the decision of the Public Officials Arbitration Board regarding the collective agreement, which includes raises for civil servant salaries and civil servant pensions for 2024-2025, a raise will be applied at the rate of the inflation difference in addition to the 15 percent determined for the first six months of 2024.
Civil servants, contract personnel, and civil servant retirees will receive their increased salaries and inflation difference on January 15. SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees will also receive their salaries with a raise at the rate of the last 6 months of inflation for this year.
"According to the MTP, the increase will be close to 50 percent"
Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University Lecturer Tarkan Zengin, who evaluated the subject, stated the following:
On January 3 at 10:00 AM, TÜİK will announce the December CPI. The 6-month CPI, which determines the salary and pension increases for civil servants and retirees, will be clear. Currently, the 5-month CPI rate is 33.66 percent. According to this 5-month situation, the salary increase for civil servants and civil servant retirees is 45 percent, while the salary increases for SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees are 33.66 percent.
According to the Medium-Term Program (MTP), if a 65 percent CPI rate is realized, the salary increases for civil servants and civil servant retirees will again be close to 50 percent with the December data. For SSK and Bağ-Kur retirees, an increase of nearly 38 percent is expected.
The lowest civil servant salary is expected to rise to 33 thousand liras
With the projected increase, the lowest civil servant salary is expected to rise to 33 thousand liras. The determined increase will also affect the 65-plus age pension, disability pension, and home care assistance payments.
December inflation expectation average is 3.19 percent
On the other hand, according to the inflation expectation survey for December, the average of inflation expectations for the month in question was 3.19 percent, and the annual inflation expectation was 65.19 percent.
