WILL THE FED CUT INTEREST RATES THIS YEAR?

US Federal Reserve (Fed) Chair Jerome Powell stated that although they have approached their inflation targets, they have not yet fully reached them, and that inflation data reflects this situation.

Regarding President Trump's statements that interest rates should be lowered, Powell said, "I will not comment on what the President says, but we will continue to focus on our work and make our decisions based on the course of the economy."

Emphasizing that the decisions they will make regarding interest rates will be based on current data, the economic outlook, and the balance of risks, Powell stated that there is currently uncertainty in government policies and that it is necessary to see the effects of these policies before taking any action.

In his previous statements, Powell had said, "There is no need for the Fed to rush to make a policy change."
