While everyone was expecting a raise, that company cut couriers' wages!
The wage cuts for couriers working at Getir have been met with backlash from the union.
The Tourism, Entertainment and Service Workers Union announced that Getir has reduced couriers' wages effective June 1.
According to the report in Sözcü, Union President Kubilay Çelik called on couriers to organize, stating, "Getir operates through a franchise system, and each franchisee signs their own employment contract with the couriers. Despite the rising cost of living, franchisees in Ankara and Istanbul have implemented cuts of up to 30 percent in wages and eliminated bonuses. We invite all couriers to contact us and join the action."
Stating that this reduction amounts to the revocation of acquired rights, Çelik added, "Even laws cannot take back acquired rights, yet Getir bosses are trying to do so. This situation started in a few warehouses but will spread across all of Turkey. We are organizing a comprehensive action against this."
