World-famous pizza chain in major crisis: Decision made to close branches

Pizza Hut, which operates across the UK, has decided to close many of its branches due to rising costs and challenging economic conditions. These closures in major cities such as Brighton, Hull, Bristol, Leeds, and Edinburgh will result in a total of 1,210 employees being laid off.

DC London Pie Limited, which manages the restaurants, has entered insolvency proceedings. While insolvency administrators have been appointed during this process, the global brand owner, Yum! Brands, is working to protect the remaining 64 restaurants and 1,276 employees in the country.

Although Pizza Hut is known for its family-friendly menu and salad bars, it has faced serious financial difficulties in the UK market in recent years. Having experienced a similar insolvency process last year, the company is now undergoing a more extensive downsizing.

THEY ARE EXPERIENCING FINANCIAL DISTRESS

Insolvency administrators from FTI Consulting stated that the root causes of DC London Pie's financial distress are rising costs and tax obligations. Joint administrator Matt Callaghan expressed that they are making efforts to ensure that the laid-off employees receive the necessary support.

DC London Pie had taken over some of the insolvent restaurants of Pizza Hut UK at the beginning of the year. The company also operates Pizza Hut franchises in Sweden and Denmark.

The 343 delivery points remaining under the control of Yum! Brands will continue to operate across the UK. This contraction in the restaurant sector once again reveals how rising costs are affecting chain businesses. Experts warn that similar bankruptcy and downsizing decisions may be seen in other chains in the coming period.
