Yavuzyılmaz proposes fuel tax cut to the government

CHP Deputy Chairman Deniz Yavuzyılmaz has demanded a significant reduction in the VAT rate to alleviate the pressure of rising fuel prices on citizens. In a post on social media, Yavuzyılmaz addressed President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, expressing his view that this step is a necessity, especially under current economic crisis conditions.

Yavuzyılmaz stated, "I am calling on President Tayyip Erdoğan: Immediately issue a Presidential Decree to reduce the VAT on fuel from 20 percent to 10 percent in the first stage, and then down to 1 percent depending on increases in international prices."

Pointing out that consumers in Turkey are directly affected by increases in fuel prices, Yavuzyılmaz emphasized existing legislation. Referring to the relevant article of the Value Added Tax Law, Yavuzyılmaz remarked, "According to Article 28 of the Value Added Tax Law No. 3065, the President is authorized to increase the VAT rate up to 40 percent or reduce it down to 1 percent. If this authority is not used now, when will it be used?"

Attention drawn to price hikes and the sliding scale system

Addressing the projected increases in fuel prices while the effects of the economic crisis continue, CHP's Yavuzyılmaz warned that if a VAT reduction is not implemented, the public will face new price hikes. Yavuzyılmaz included the following statements:

"If the VAT rate on fuel is not reduced to 1 percent until the crisis is overcome, our citizens will face a series of price hikes that will be directly reflected in the pump price of diesel. Because the sliding scale system is about to be deactivated."

The tax burden on fuel prices in Turkey and the economic pressure caused by global price fluctuations continue to remain on the political agenda.
