Salary warning from YÖK
According to a statement from the Council of Higher Education (YÖK), a letter sent to foundation universities has notified them that they must implement a finalized court ruling stating they cannot pay their academic staff less than the equivalent net salary paid at state universities.
The statement recalled that the previous decision allowing foundation universities to base the salaries of their academic staff on "either the net or gross amount of the equivalent salary paid at state higher education institutions" has been annulled.
Thus, foundation higher education institutions will not be able to pay their academic staff less than the equivalent net salary amount paid at state higher education institutions.
Accordingly, foundation higher education institutions will henceforth make payments to their academic staff based on the net amount, not the gross.
In the event that academic staff are paid low wages despite this decision, foundation higher education institutions will face sanctions both judicially and before the Council of Higher Education.
