Ruling issued on the ownership of Galata Tower: IMM's request rejected
The lawsuit regarding the ownership of Galata Tower, one of the symbols of Istanbul, has concluded. The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality's (IMM) request was rejected, and the tower will continue to remain under the administration of the General Directorate of Foundations.
The lawsuit heard at the Istanbul 18th Civil Court of First Instance regarding the ownership of Galata Tower, one of the historical symbols of Istanbul, has finally concluded. The court rejected the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality's request for the cancellation and registration of the title deed.
DECISION TAKEN IN ACCORDANCE WITH FOUNDATION RECORDS
The General Directorate of Foundations announced the development in the case via its social media account. The statement said, "Galata Tower has the status of a 'mazbut' (managed) foundation in accordance with foundation records and current legislation, and it will continue to remain under the administration of the General Directorate of Foundations."
The statement further included the following: "Title deed, cadastre, and archive documents clearly show that Galata Tower belongs to the Kule-i Zemin Foundation." Following this decision, the General Directorate of Foundations stated that the legal process regarding the ownership of Galata Tower has reached a final conclusion.

WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
Galata Tower, located in Beyoğlu, was registered in the name of the Kule-i Zemin Foundation in 2019 in accordance with the provisions of the Law on Foundations.
In the lawsuit filed by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, the registration of the tower in the name of the municipality was requested.
With this decision, the municipality's request has been rejected.
