Spotlight on epilepsy: Turkey's iconic landmarks to be illuminated in purple

Celebrated on the second Monday of February each year, International Epilepsy Day draws attention to the challenges faced by epilepsy patients and their families in social life.

On this year's International Epilepsy Day, to be marked on February 12, Turkey's iconic landmarks will be illuminated in purple—the color symbolizing epilepsy—through the initiatives of the 'Look for Epilepsy' (Epilepsi İçin Bak) awareness campaign, conducted by the Turkish Epilepsy Association to break down social prejudices regarding the disease.

As part of the 'Look for Epilepsy' awareness campaign, the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge, Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, the Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Fairy Tale Castle, and Amasya Castle will shine the light of awareness.

'SEE THE TRUTH, CONTRARY TO 60 PERCENT OF SOCIETY'

According to the results of the Epilepsy Awareness Survey, the rate of those in our country who feel uncomfortable having individuals with epilepsy in their social circle due to prejudices is 60 percent. Stating this, Turkish Epilepsy Association President Prof. Dr. Nerses Bebek said, "We must start the change together. See the truth, contrary to 60 percent of society, and fight against the prejudices you encounter regarding epilepsy by becoming informed."
