The end of obesity: Miraculous pill developed
US scientists have developed a pill that causes a feeling of fullness by vibrating in the stomach. It is stated that the drug could be effective in the fight against obesity.
US scientists have conducted a study that could be a solution to the growing problem of obesity worldwide. A group of scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has succeeded in developing a pill that triggers hormones such as C-peptide, PYY, and GLP-1, which are normally secreted after eating and provide a feeling of fullness.
Animals given the pill ate about 40 percent less
The team, which tested the pill called the Vibrating Ingestible BioElectronic Stimulator (VIBES)—which contains micro-vibration motors and creates a feeling of fullness by vibrating in the stomach—on animals, concluded that the animals given the pill ate about 40 percent less than those that were not. Experts, stating that the VIBES pill could be a source of hope in the treatment of obesity, nevertheless emphasized that the research is still in an early stage and that more scientific studies are needed.
Number of obese people will exceed 4 billion
According to World Health Organization (WHO) data, there are over 1 billion overweight or obese people worldwide. Data published by the World Obesity Federation shows that the number of people struggling with excess weight or obesity will exceed 4 billion by 2035.
