Turkey's mental health is deteriorating; psychology was the most booked medical specialty throughout the year

Digital healthcare service provider DoktorTakvimi has released its data regarding the healthcare sector for 2024.

According to DoktorTakvimi, which hosts profiles for over 200,000 physicians and specialists on its system, the top three cities with the most doctor appointments booked in 2024 were Eskişehir, Kocaeli, and Denizli.

The three specialties with the most appointments booked through the platform were ranked as Psychology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Pediatrics.

According to the data, 408,000 appointments were booked through the system in 2024, with an average of 1,200 daily appointments. The number of visitors, which was 73 million in 2023, rose to 80 million.

The regions with the most appointments were the Marmara region with 40 percent, Central Anatolia with 21 percent, the Aegean with 15 percent, and the Mediterranean with 10 percent; while the cities with the highest number of appointments relative to their population were, in order, Eskişehir, Kocaeli, Denizli, Konya, and Bursa.

The specialties with the most appointments were ranked as Psychology (20%), Obstetrics and Gynecology (12%), Pediatrics (8%), Psychiatry (7%), and Dentistry (5%).

In 2023, the ranking was Psychology (24%), Psychiatry (12%), Obstetrics and Gynecology (12%), Pediatrics (8%), and Dentistry (6%).

Commenting on the matter, DoktorTakvimi Turkey Country Manager Hakan Türkoğlu stated, “When we look at the data, we see that the most booked specialty in 2024, just as in 2023, is psychology. This situation once again shows that our country's stressful and difficult process continues and that society has a need to cope with this process. On the other hand, child health, which was not in the top five last year, entered the list in third place. This is linked to the increase in childhood illnesses in 2024.”
