5-year campus ban for student after photo protest at Boğaziçi

It has been alleged that the alumni card of a student who refused to take a photo with Yasin Ramazan Başaran, an academic stated to have been appointed to the department during the trustee administration period, at the Boğaziçi University Philosophy Department graduation ceremony was cancelled and their entry to the campus was banned for 5 years.

In a post shared by the social media account Boğaziçi’nin Sesi, it was announced that the student's alumni card was deactivated by the university administration following the protest. The post argued that the decision was made by the Naci İnci administration, which is affiliated with the AKP.

The alumni card deactivation notice stated to have been sent to the student.

The displayed document states that, in accordance with the Boğaziçi University Institutional Identity, Alumni and Visitor Card Directive, the campus entry card was deactivated for 5 years on the grounds that the “ceremony order was disrupted” during the graduation ceremony held at the South Campus Albert Long Hall building on July 2, 2026.

We have learned that our friend's alumni card was cancelled by the AKP-affiliated Naci İnci administration and that they received a 5-year campus entry ban because they did not want to take a photo with the parachute named Yasin Ramazan. Take your hands off this school!

Following the ceremony, Yasin Ramazan Başaran had also made a statement on his social media account. Stating that the ceremony protocol must be followed, Başaran said, “If you are attending the ceremony, you will comply with how the ceremony is conducted. Otherwise, you can go and pick up your diploma from the secretariat. I am not representing myself there, I am representing the Philosophy Department; I cannot be a part of your show.”
