Claims that 'the Ministry of National Education will announce a new curriculum'! 'Work completed before approval...'

Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin had stated that, as part of the curriculum change, course content would be simplified and announced to the public in December 2023.

However, despite reaching April 2024, no announcement has been made by the ministry regarding the curriculum change. For some time, it has been discussed that "the ministry is changing the curriculum under the guise of simplifying courses, within the scope of the 'Century of Turkey Education Model,' which prioritizes national and spiritual values in education."

CREATION THEORY INSTEAD OF EVOLUTION THEORY

Within the scope of the model in question, it is reported that the "theory of evolution" has been removed from the content of the biology course and the "theory of creation," based on religious knowledge, has been added. In addition to this, it has come to the agenda that a move against secular and scientific education has also taken place in secondary school mathematics. "Integrals" were removed from the secondary school mathematics curriculum. Furthermore, the content of the "sets" and "logic" topics was simplified, and the grade levels for these topics were changed.

NEW CURRICULUM PREPARED

According to a report by Aytunç Ürkmez from Cumhuriyet, it was rumored that the ministry would announce the new curriculum after the local elections. It is claimed that this curriculum prepared by the ministry has been sent to the Ministry's Board of Education and Discipline and that approval is awaited. On the other hand, it is stated that the work on preparing textbooks within the scope of the new curriculum has been completed even before approval has been issued by the board.

Speaking about the new curriculum work, Eğitim-İş Union President Kadem Özbay said, "It is understood, based on our observations and what we have heard, that we will once again see opposition to the republic and Atatürk manifesting itself in the curriculum and the common text of the teaching program." Özbay added, "It is clear that they will carry out the simplification through the curriculum change by destroying the final pieces of contemporary, scientific, and secular education. This government's concern is the complete religiousization of education."
