Complaints rise, Ministry of National Education takes action: Penalties on the way for influencer teachers

The Ministry of National Education (MEB) has decided to initiate a comprehensive review process regarding teachers and administrators who reach large audiences on social media. In line with this decision, the digital activities of educators described as influencers will be audited across Turkey.

COMPLAINTS TRIGGERED THE INITIATIVE

This step by the Ministry comes after numerous applications were made to CIMER and the Ministry of National Education Communication Center. It was decided to address the matter in detail following the incoming complaints.

LIST OF NAMES REQUESTED FROM PROVINCES

In this context, the MEB has requested a list of teachers and school administrators with high follower counts on social media from the national education directorates in 81 provinces.

POSTS UNDER SCRUTINY

The social media accounts of the individuals on the list to be created will be examined. Whether the posts comply with regulations will be evaluated.

According to the report on NTV; disciplinary action will be taken against teachers and administrators found to have acted in violation of relevant regulations as a result of the investigations.

PARENTAL CONSENT REQUIRED FOR STUDENT IMAGES

According to the Teaching Profession Law, teachers and administrators can only share the audio or images of students with permission from their parents. Posts made in violation of this rule are considered within the scope of disciplinary penalties.

PENALTY WILL BE RECORDED IN THE PERSONNEL FILE

Teachers who make posts that violate regulations are given a "reprimand." This penalty remains in the teacher's personnel file for a period of 5 years.
