Decision on 'class mothers' from the Ministry of National Education: Official letter sent, practice has ended!

The Ministry of National Education has issued an official warning regarding the "class mother" practice, which has been unofficially implemented in almost all primary school classrooms across Turkey.

The Ministry drew attention to complaints that these individuals engage in various activities in classrooms, collect dues from parents, demand money for the procurement of teaching materials, and occasionally interfere with lessons.

OFFICIAL LETTER SENT

In the letter titled "Regarding practices not included in the legislation (Class mother)" sent to governorates by MEB Director General of Basic Education Zarife Seçer, it was noted that these individuals engage in various activities in classrooms, collect dues from parents, act to procure teaching materials, occasionally interfere with lessons, and record images of students.

"CONTRARY TO PEDAGOGICAL PRINCIPLES"

Stating that the interference of individuals other than teachers in educational environments degrades the quality of education and creates situations contrary to pedagogical principles, the letter included the following statement: "I request that you ensure that practices not included in the legislation, such as 'class mothers' and similar titles, are not permitted in schools within your governorate, and that schools are warned and necessary measures are taken in this regard."
