Faculty in Istanbul to relocate due to earthquake! Operations temporarily suspended

The Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa nursing faculty in Şişli is relocating due to the earthquake.

SECURITY CONCERNS FOLLOWING THE ISTANBUL EARTHQUAKE

Prof. Dr. Aydın made a statement to the press in Şişli regarding the decisions taken by the university concerning earthquake safety following the 6.2 magnitude earthquake that occurred off the coast of Silivri in the Sea of Marmara.

Conveying his "get well soon" wishes to the students, staff, and all the people of Istanbul, Aydın stated that the university has various faculties and units in 7 districts of the city, and that the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, one of these, has been serving in Şişli since its establishment.

'IT WAS ALREADY GOING TO MOVE, BUT WE MOVED IT UP DUE TO THE EARTHQUAKE'

Stating that the faculty serves a total of 1,537 students, Aydın used the following expressions:

"Due to earthquake risk, studies regarding the structural safety of buildings are being carried out in all units of our university. These studies were also conducted for the Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing buildings. About 2 months ago, our university's board of directors decided that the faculty would be moved in a planned manner during the summer months. However, the earthquake we experienced in Istanbul 2 days ago necessitated moving up the decision to relocate the faculty. In this context, with the decision taken by our university senate today, the faculty's operations have been suspended for 20 days. During this period, the Istanbul University-Cerrahpaşa Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing will be moved to a building on our Avcılar Campus. Following its relocation, our faculty will begin its education and training activities at its new location on May 20. Our 4th-year students taking clinical practice courses will not be affected by this decision."

Expressing that discussions regarding the reinforcement and reconstruction of the faculty building are being held with the property owner, the Florence Nightingale Nursing Schools and Hospitals Foundation, Aydın thanked the foundation for the support they have provided to date and will provide in the future.

Stating that their goal is for the nursing faculty to return to this historic area where it was founded in the future, Aydın also thanked the students and academic staff for the patience they will show.
