Governor's Office announces: New practice in all schools in Istanbul

The Istanbul Governor's Office has announced the security measures taken across the city in and around schools to ensure the 2026-2027 academic year passes in an environment of peace and security.

According to the Governor's Office statement, nearly 2 million 800 thousand students and 161 thousand 453 teachers will begin the new academic year in Istanbul on Monday. A comprehensive security plan to be implemented throughout the year around schools has been prepared to ensure students receive their education safely.

THOUSANDS OF PERSONNEL WILL BE ON DUTY AT 719 POINTS

School security measures will be implemented at 719 points under the responsibility of the Istanbul Provincial Police Department, with 1,483 teams and 2,469 personnel. These efforts will continue throughout the academic year.

Within the Child Branch Directorate, 229 "School Law Enforcement Officers" have been assigned to 239 schools, and 470 "Safe Education Coordination Officers" have been assigned to 470 schools.

578 teams will be stationed permanently during school entry and exit hours.

Mobile School Teams, created for rapid intervention in potential security issues in and around schools, will also continue their work with 45 teams across 39 districts.

INSPECTIONS AROUND SCHOOLS WILL BE INCREASED

341 teams composed of personnel from the child, public order, traffic, preventive, narcotics, and district police departments will carry out intensive security operations at 120 points daily throughout the academic term.

The teams will also continue their public order and inspection work without interruption in venues and businesses where students are frequently present around schools.

TRAFFIC TEAMS WILL ALSO INSPECT SCHOOL BUSES

Traffic measures will be implemented at 499 points between September 14-25 by Traffic Inspection, Regional Traffic, and District Traffic Bureau teams.

In this context, a total of 890 personnel, including 262 teams, 157 motorcycle personnel, 161 pedestrian officers, and 41 tow trucks, will be on duty in the field.

Inspections of school buses by Traffic Branch Directorate teams will also continue throughout the academic year.

Preventive Services Branch Directorate teams will be on duty with 10 teams at key intersections and squares around schools between September 8-19. General security and public order measures will be implemented with 100 motorcycle "Yunus" teams in front of and around schools during entry and exit hours.

Additionally, between September 14-25, 2026, 50 teams and 100 personnel will be patrolling at key intersections and squares around schools and at 100 different points.

GENDARMERIE TEAMS WILL BE IN FRONT OF SCHOOLS

The Istanbul Provincial Gendarmerie Command will also carry out security, traffic, and public order operations in and around schools in its area of responsibility on September 14, when schools open, and the following days.

In the efforts where a total of 114 teams and 335 personnel will take part, multi-faceted inspections will be conducted to ensure the safety of students.

Controls carried out within the scope of combating drugs and stimulants will be increased around schools and in areas where students are concentrated. Furthermore, inspections aimed at preventing the sale of alcohol and open cigarettes to students will continue.

Gendarmerie teams will be on duty in front of schools during student entry and exit hours.

HYGIENE INSPECTIONS WILL BE CONDUCTED IN CANTEENS

Teams from the Istanbul Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry will conduct hygiene inspections in school canteens between 10:00 and 15:00 on September 14, the first day schools open.

CLASS HOURS CHANGED FOR THE FIRST DAY

The Istanbul Governor's Office announced that a special time arrangement has been made across the province to reduce potential traffic congestion on the first day schools open.

The statement noted that in addition to approximately 19 thousand school buses, thousands of parents who will take their children to school in their own vehicles are expected to be on the road on Monday.

To prevent potential traffic disruptions due to the identification of bus and school routes, education in public and private primary, middle, and high schools across Istanbul on September 14 will take place between 10:00 and 15:00.

3 THOUSAND 13 PERSONNEL WILL BE IN SCHOOL YARDS

To ensure students enter and exit schools safely and to contribute to security and coordination in school yards, 3 thousand 13 yard personnel will also begin their duties as of September 14.

Personnel who will work in the yards of all schools, including kindergartens, will support security, coordination, and cooperation efforts.

Training for yard personnel will be provided by police teams.

DETECTOR PRACTICE IN SCHOOLS

Detectors provided by the Istanbul Governor's Office will be kept in all schools in Istanbul this year.

Searches, examinations, and checks will be carried out with detectors in necessary situations and on risky matters.

8 THOUSAND 500 CLEANING PERSONNEL WILL BEGIN DUTY

8 thousand 500 cleaning personnel assigned through İŞKUR under the Community Benefit Program (TYP) will also begin working in schools in Istanbul as of Monday.

The assigned personnel will carry out cleaning services in schools to ensure students can receive education in a healthy and clean environment.
