ÖSYM is looking for "question writers"

ÖSYM President Prof. Dr. Bayram Ali Ersoy made statements regarding the institution's recent work.

Recalling that he took office approximately 14 months ago on August 4, 2022, Ersoy said, "In those days when some undesirable situations occurred, we first froze ÖSYM's question bank, then we contacted about 1000 professors and started new KPSS processes. We completed the exams, which are normally prepared in 4-5 months, in 25 days together with our professors, and the exams were completed in a healthy manner."

Stating that there have been no suspicions or undesirable situations regarding the exams in the 14-month period, Ersoy conveyed that the process has been going very smoothly.

Ersoy shared the information, "We have conducted 62 exams in this period. A total of 16 million 300 thousand candidates applied for the exams in different sessions, and 8 million candidates applied as unique applicants. Over 2 million people served in our exams."

Expressing that they are trying to increase the number of academic question writers who will serve in ÖSYM's question bank, Ersoy said that they want to utilize all faculty members, instructors, teachers, and special field experts in Turkey for question writing.

Ersoy said, "We want to increase our question writing ability and question variety. While increasing the number of questions in our question bank on one hand, we aim to reach at least 10 times the number of questions to be used in the exam during the printing house period, which is the selection of questions to be used in the exam and operates on a 24-hour lockdown basis. To achieve this, we want to increase the number of our question writers. In this sense, we are in contact with experts."

"SECURITY MEASURES ARE AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL IN ALL QUESTION PREPARATION PROCESSES"

Upon being reminded of Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin's statement that "question writing for the ÖSYM question bank will be carried out by ÖSYM experts, academics, and teachers working in schools affiliated with the Ministry," Ersoy noted the following:

"Our Minister of National Education Tekin was previously on the ÖSYM Board of Directors, so he knows our processes very well. Our process regarding YKS begins with the curriculum and learning outcomes coming from the Board of Education and Discipline. After our Minister took office, we visited him and worked on how future YKS processes would be.

In the YKS process, our teachers from the Ministry of National Education's General Directorate of Measurement, Evaluation and Examination Services have joined our existing 7 thousand question writers. We will cooperate with these teachers in particular to establish processes in YKS that are appropriate for our students' curriculum and learning outcomes. We will organize workshops together at certain periods throughout the year. We will enrich our YKS question pool with our teachers from the Ministry of National Education, alongside our existing faculty members from universities. Therefore, we will continue to prepare YKS processes that are appropriate for our students' studies, curricula, and learning outcomes."

Underlining that as ÖSYM, they comply with the regulations made in the Ministry of National Education during the YKS process, Ersoy evaluated, "Because our candidate base is students coming from the Ministry of National Education... Therefore, the Ministry of National Education's curriculum, subject coverage and question styles, books, and supplementary books are important for YKS. We are cooperating with the Ministry of National Education in all processes. We will work to carry out the processes in a healthy and fast manner today, just as we did yesterday."
