Members of the Education and Science Workers' Union (Eğitim-Sen), who wanted to march from the Ministry of National Education to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) to demand the withdrawal of the Teaching Profession Law, were surrounded by police. The teachers' path was blocked by riot police.
Members of the Education and Science Workers' Union were prevented from marching from the Ministry of National Education to the TBMM to demand the withdrawal of the Teaching Profession Law Proposal.
SLOGANS WERE CHANTED
The Teaching Profession Law Proposal, which was accepted by the Committee on National Education, Culture, Youth and Sports last week, will be discussed in the General Assembly of the TBMM.
As the General Assembly began deliberations on the 39-article law proposal, teachers who gathered in front of the Ministry of National Education chanted slogans such as "No to the teacher-hostile Teaching Profession Law," "Long live our organized struggle," "Budget for teachers, not for religious sects," "Teacher-hostile Yusuf Tekin resign," and "Parliament, reject the ÖMK."
"NO TO THE TEACHER-HOSTILE ÖMK"
The educators carried banners reading "No to the teacher-hostile ÖMK." Some members of parliament from the CHP and the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party also supported the protest.
The march that the educators wanted to carry out from in front of the Ministry of National Education to the TBMM was not permitted by the police. The route to the Parliament was closed off with barriers. The teachers' path was blocked by riot police.
The police made announcements for the teachers to disperse, requesting that the educators remain in the area designated for press statements.
"YOU WILL BE DISPERSED BY FORCE"
In the announcement made by the police, it was stated, "Do not resist our police. Your direction for dispersal is Sıhhiye. The action you are taking is illegal. If you do not disperse, you will be dispersed by force."
