The high cost of living in Turkey has also manifested itself in preschool and nanny prices.

While childcare for young children has become an essential need for working parents, the hikes in preschool and nanny fees are putting a strain on families.

Preschool and nanny fees in Istanbul, which have increased by approximately 150 percent compared to the same period last year, are causing financial distress for many families.

Due to the high prices, some families prefer to get help from grandparents for their children's care, while others continue to utilize preschool or nanny services despite the price increases.

Making statements regarding the price increases over the last year and the preferences of families, President of the Private Preschools Association Hacı Murat Kuş said, “Last year, there were preschool fees ranging from 7 thousand to 14 thousand liras and nanny prices around 15 thousand liras. This year, however, preschool fees have risen to the 17 thousand to 32 thousand, and even 35 thousand lira band. These prices vary according to the services offered by the school, the rental costs of the property, and other expenses. Nanny prices are currently around 45 thousand liras.”

CONDITIONS ARE CLEAR

Emphasizing that the economic conditions in Turkey are challenging, Kuş stated, “The conditions of our country are clear. Unfortunately, we are in a situation where both the mother and father have to work. There are many parents who do not know where to leave their children. Those who have the means can send their children to preschool, while those who do not have the means can get help by bringing their grandmothers from their villages or cities. Those who cannot provide this opportunity or whose children need more care prefer to hire a nanny. Some also choose nanny services for language education,” he said.
