Private daycare fees in Istanbul approach 1 million liras
Ahead of the 2026 academic year, private daycare and preschool fees in Istanbul are starting at 400 thousand liras and reaching up to 1 million liras at some institutions.
Ahead of the 2026 academic year, private daycare and preschool fees are at the top of the agenda for working families. It is reported that annual fees at some institutions in Istanbul have exceeded 900 thousand liras and, with additional services, reach up to 1 million liras.
While steps are being taken to expand childcare facilities for children aged 0-6 in public institutions and organizations, the price increases in private daycares are straining parents' budgets.
FEES START AT 400 THOUSAND LIRAS
It is stated that daycare and preschool prices across Istanbul start at 400 thousand liras annually and rise up to 900 thousand liras depending on the institution's location, the programs offered, and additional services. In some elite institutions, it is reported that the total cost is approaching 1 million liras.
Evaluating the prices in the market, a school official stated that fees vary from institution to institution, saying, “Let me give you an average figure: it is in the 800-900 thousand band. It is 550 thousand liras annually, and this figure is excluding VAT. If you wish, you can make payments by hand. You pay in 10 installments of 55 thousand liras per month.”
Among the items that increase the fees, foreign language education, psychological counseling, social activities, and branch courses stand out. It is noted that prices are higher in institutions that offer programs such as weekly gymnastics, music, modern dance, ballet, and creative drama.
Parents, on the other hand, express that the share of daycare costs in the family budget is growing rapidly due to the rising fees. It is stated that especially in households where both parents work, childcare creates serious pressure on monthly income.
Rising prices have become one of the most significant cost items for families who have to choose private daycare ahead of the new term. Parents express their expectation that fees be brought to accessible levels and that public childcare options be expanded.
