Publication requirement introduced for thesis submission at the Turkey International Islamic, Science and Technology University

The new regulation regarding the graduate education and training processes of the Turkey International Islamic, Science and Technology University has been published in the Official Gazette and has entered into force. The regulation includes new provisions for the program completion requirements for master's students with thesis and doctoral students.

According to the regulation, it will no longer be sufficient for master's students with thesis to simply complete their thesis work to submit it. Before the thesis submission date, the student will be required to present a paper at an event such as a congress, conference, or symposium, or to publish an article, translation, book review, or analysis in a scientific journal.

Publishing an international scientific book or book chapter, or receiving a letter of acceptance for such a publication, will also satisfy this requirement. It will be mandatory for the university's name to be included in the relevant event or publication.

A publication requirement has also been introduced for doctoral students before thesis submission. Accordingly, a doctoral student will be required to have published at least one article in a peer-reviewed journal as an author, either individually or jointly with a faculty member, or to have received a letter of acceptance for publication. The condition that the university's name must appear in this publication will also be required.

With the new regulation, the ECTS load of the programs has also been clarified. A master's program with thesis will consist of at least eight courses, one seminar, and a thesis study; the total load will be at least 120 ECTS. The doctoral program will include at least eight courses, a seminar, a proficiency exam, a thesis proposal, and a thesis study; the total load will be applied as at least 240 ECTS.

The normal duration of the master's program has been set at four semesters, with a maximum duration of six semesters. The doctoral program will last eight semesters and must be completed in a maximum of 12 semesters. Students who fail to meet the necessary conditions within the maximum duration will be dismissed from the university.

The attendance requirement for courses has been set at 80 percent. Students who do not meet this condition will not be able to take the final exam for the relevant course. In the doctoral proficiency exam, students who receive an average of at least 70 in both the written and oral stages separately will be considered successful.

The regulation also includes provisions for additional time for situations such as disasters and epidemics, as well as for female graduate students who give birth. The additional time granted within this scope will not be counted toward the maximum period of study.
