Statement from Minister Tekin on YKS: Will the exam system change?

Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin answered questions regarding the Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS). Meeting with university candidates at the “University Preference Support Program” held in Istanbul, Tekin announced that there would be no changes to the exam system.

Speaking at the program organized by the Önce Öğrenci Platform in cooperation with Arnavutköy Municipality at the Nuri Pakdil Culture and Art Center, Tekin said that YKS should not be seen as the only determining factor in the lives of young people.

Addressing the youth, Tekin said, “Do not associate yourselves and what you will do for this country with YKS. YKS is just a tiny part of your life.” Calling on students not to lose morale based on exam results, Tekin emphasized the importance of students directing themselves toward fields suitable for their own talents.

Stating that claims regarding a change in the exam system are not true, Tekin said, “There is no change to the exam system this year, next year, or the year after.”

However, Minister Tekin stated that an adaptation based on the curriculum will be made in the content of the questions. Noting that questions will naturally be adapted to the new curriculum when students who have been educated under the new curriculum take the exam, Tekin said, “There is no change in the exam system, but the questions will naturally be made compatible with the curriculum.”
