Student amnesty proposal nears completion: Who will be eligible, and how will the application process work?
The student amnesty proposal, which concerns candidates who were dismissed from universities or were unable to enroll, is expected to be submitted to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) this week.
A new stage has been reached in the student amnesty regulation awaited by candidates who had to interrupt their university education, had their registration deleted, or were unable to enroll despite having the right to do so.
The proposal, prepared by the AKP and envisioning amendments to the Higher Education Law, is expected to be submitted to the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) this week.
The regulation aims to provide an opportunity for certain candidates whose ties with higher education institutions were severed to return to their studies.
According to the proposal, those whose ties with a university were severed on or after July 1, 2022, as well as candidates who did not enroll despite having the right to do so, will be able to benefit from the student amnesty.
If the regulation is enacted, candidates will be required to apply to the relevant universities within 4 months. Candidates whose applications are accepted will be able to continue their education in the 2026-2027 academic year.
The proposal also includes certain exceptions. It is envisioned that those convicted of serious crimes such as terrorism, intentional homicide, sexual offenses, and drug trafficking will be excluded from the scope of the regulation.
Furthermore, it is stated that those determined to have enrolled with forged documents and individuals with links to terrorist organizations will not be able to benefit from the student amnesty.
