Turkey-Syria University to be established
Following visits by YÖK President Erol Özvar to Syria, it has been announced that a "Turkey-Syria University" will be established.
Council of Higher Education (YÖK) President Prof. Dr. Erol Özvar, as part of his visit to the Syrian capital Damascus, met with Ambassador Burhan Köroğlu, the Chargé d'Affaires of the Interim Mission in Damascus, as well as Homs University Rector Prof. Abdul Basit Alkhatib and Hama University Rector Dr. Abdul Razzaq Salem.
During the visits, Prof. Dr. Özvar held discussions on the support and contributions Turkey can provide in the field of higher education in Syria, which is in the process of post-war recovery.
At the conclusion of these meetings, an agreement was reached on a protocol for the first cooperation in the field of higher education between the two countries following the fall of the Assad regime in Syria, and signatures were exchanged between the parties.
According to the agreement signed by YÖK President Özvar and Syrian Minister of Higher Education Marwan Halebi, activities will be carried out in line with the determined work topics, and the issues mentioned in the protocol will be completed within 3 months.
