Update to postgraduate equivalency requirements

With the amendments made to the regulation on equivalency in postgraduate education, a program will now be required to have a curriculum overlap of at least 80 percent to attain the status of an “equivalent diploma program.” This rate has been established by the Council of Higher Education as the fundamental criterion for programs whose equivalency is accepted.

Under the new regulation, for postgraduate programs with different names to be considered equivalent, it is now a requirement that the relevant institute administrative boards determine that the course contents of these programs have a similarity of over 80 percent.

The term “postgraduate programs,” which previously appeared in the legislation, has been changed to “equivalent diploma program” to resolve uncertainties encountered in practice. The authority for the implementation of the changes that have entered into force has been granted to the President of YÖK.

The new regulation, published in the Official Gazette, entered into force as of the date of its publication.
