YKS question with changed answer by ÖSYM taken to court

Following the 2026 Higher Education Institutions Examination (YKS), developments regarding the 23rd derivative question in the Field Proficiency Test (AYT) Mathematics booklet have sparked controversy. The Assessment, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) had initially changed the correct answer to this question from option "C" to option "A". However, this change has raised questions among university candidates regarding whether fairness was ensured.

According to a report by Türkiye Gazetesi, a student named D.K.A., who is preparing for university in Sakarya, filed a lawsuit against ÖSYM seeking a stay of execution and the cancellation of the 23rd question, arguing that merely changing the option was not fair. Following these developments, tens of thousands of candidates who took the exam and their families have begun waiting for the outcome of the court process.

Experts state that in such cases, administrative courts generally look favorably upon "cancellation" decisions to prevent large groups from suffering grievances. The legal process is expected to proceed rapidly; according to relevant legislation, cancellation applications can be made within 10 days. During the court phase, the claims of the student who filed the lawsuit and the official defense of ÖSYM will be taken first, and then an expert committee consisting of academics will be appointed. The technical report to be prepared by the committee is expected to be decisive in the decision-making process. Once the file is completed, the court is expected to announce its final decision within 15 days at the latest.

According to information obtained from ÖSYM officials, the institution states that they are keeping "Plan B" scenarios ready in case of a possible court cancellation decision. Steps to be implemented quickly for the recalculation of exam results and the preservation of candidates' rankings have been determined.
