CHP municipal council candidate dies after suffering heart attack at polling station
Hüseyin Çakır, a Republican People's Party (CHP) candidate for the Ereğli Municipal Council, suffered a heart attack at a polling station. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Çakır could not be saved.
Citizens headed to the polls as of 08:00 as part of the March 31 local elections.
Hüseyin Çakır, who was serving as the building supervisor at Ereğli Turgut Reis Middle School, collapsed after suffering a heart attack.
Taken to the hospital with the help of those nearby and election officials, Çakır lost his life there despite all the efforts of CHP Zonguldak Deputy Dr. Eylem Ertuğrul.
Making a statement on the matter, CHP Zonguldak Provincial Chair Devrim Dural confirmed that Çakır passed away while performing his election duties, stating, "Despite all the efforts of our deputy Eylem Ertuğrul, our Ereğli Municipal Council candidate Hüseyin Çakır could not hold on to life. We are deeply saddened."
