Explosion in Cologne: Two people injured, police launch investigation

While police have not yet provided information regarding the explosion that occurred on Longericher Street at 02:45 local time, reports in the local press stated that 2 people were slightly injured.

According to information obtained from local residents, an explosion sound was heard first, followed by a fire that broke out in the cafe, shattering windows and causing major damage to the building. Police have launched an investigation into the incident. There had been explosions at 2 other venues previously.

In a similar explosion that occurred in Cologne on September 16, a cleaning worker employed at an entertainment venue owned by a Turkish national was injured.

Security camera footage of the building regarding the explosion that occurred around 06:00 on Hohenzollernring Street showed an individual leaving a box in a bag at the building's entrance and walking away, with the explosion occurring immediately afterward.

Police conducting an investigation into the incident had launched a search for the suspect whose photos they released and requested assistance from the public. On September 18, one person was slightly injured in an explosion that occurred in front of a clothing store in the city of Cologne.
