Promotion night for the fifth Dakar Carnival in Senegal held with performances
The promotion night for the fifth Dakar Carnival, which will be held this year in Senegal, has taken place. Excerpts from the ceremonies of ethnic groups were showcased among baobab trees, and songs were sung accompanied by local dances. Various sessions on culture and art, percussion performances, and concerts will be held as part of the carnival. The carnival will conclude on November 30 with a parade organized by ethnic groups in the city center.
A preparatory program for the Dakar Carnival, which will be held for the fifth time this year in Senegal, was organized among baobab trees.
The promotional night was held in the village of Mbourokh, near the city of Mbour, approximately 100 kilometers from the capital, Dakar.
At the open-air event held in the baobab forest, excerpts from the ceremonies of the Serere, Fulani, and Mandinge ethnic groups were showcased, and songs were sung accompanied by local dances.
Artists from Guadeloupe, the guest country of this year's carnival, also took part in the show during the night, which was also attended by tourists.
Dakar Carnival Artistic Director Cheikh Ma Djimbira Ndiaye stated that the goal of the carnival, which has been held since 2019, is to better promote Senegalese culture.
Cheikh Ma Djimbira Ndiaye noted that they aim to make the Dakar Carnival a brand, similar to the Rio Carnival.
Ndiaye said, "We are organizing the fifth edition of the Dakar Carnival this year. Senegal is a country where different ethnic groups live, but we cannot promote ourselves. Each ethnic group has its own unique dances, traditions, and even songs. Our goal is to showcase Senegal's cultural diversity in the best possible way through the Dakar Carnival."
As part of the carnival, which will officially begin on November 28, various sessions on culture and art, percussion performances, and concerts will be held.
The carnival will conclude on November 30 with a parade organized by ethnic groups in the city center.
