700 decares of land reduced to ashes in Görükle fire

Bursa'da makilik alanda başlayıp Bursa Uludağ University (BUÜ) Görükle Campus'e sıçrayan yangının kontrol altına alınmasının ardından soğutma çalışması sürüyor.

The fire, which broke out yesterday afternoon in a scrubland area near Yolçatı Neighborhood in the Nilüfer district and spread rapidly due to the wind, reaching cultivated lands and the campus as it progressed along the banks of Ayvalı Creek, affected approximately 700 decares of land.

Under the coordination of Bursa Governor Mahmut Demirtaş, firefighting efforts were carried out by more than 1,000 personnel from the Bursa Regional Directorate of Forestry, Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, and various official and private institutions, using 4 aircraft, 4 helicopters, and 1 night-vision helicopter from the air, as well as dozens of fire trucks, construction equipment, and service vehicles on the ground. As a result of intense efforts, the flames were brought under control towards midnight.

On the campus, where students from male and female dormitories were evacuated, along with red deer, horses, and other animals kept in their natural habitats, cooling efforts continued until morning both from the air with a night-vision helicopter and on the ground with fire trucks.

The burned forested area on the campus, where cooling work and damage assessment are ongoing, was captured by drone.

Meanwhile, it was reported that the investigation initiated by the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the cause of the fire is continuing.
