Agricultural frost alert in Adana: Major losses in lettuce and citrus!

Adana Farmers' Union President Mutlu Doğru stated that, according to information received from the meteorological service, the risk of agricultural frost will continue tonight and tomorrow night.

Doğru warned farmers, saying, "In Adana, where the first early-season watermelons in Turkey are grown, the freezing of seedlings will bring additional costs to our farmers because they will have to buy new watermelon seedlings. Furthermore, this situation will also delay the harvest process."

"Our farmers are also facing huge losses in field vegetables such as cabbage and lettuce that have not yet been harvested. On the other hand, as a result of late-season orange and mandarin varieties that have not yet been harvested freezing on the branch, our farmers will suffer losses in both this year's crop and next year's yield. The blossoms of early-season products grown in our plains, such as nectarines, peaches, and apricots, which were to be harvested between late April and early May, have completely frozen, making it impossible to obtain a harvest.

Farmers affected by the frost will need to apply to their respective district directorates of agriculture and forestry to have their damages assessed. Meanwhile, farmers who have insured their products must file a damage claim with TARSİM. It is essential that the experts who will conduct damage assessments on behalf of TARSİM for our frost-affected farmers prepare accurate and fair reports, and that compensation is paid to our affected farmers before the production season passes."
