Agricultural frost hits farming: Major price hikes coming for vegetables!
Severe cold has struck agricultural lands, causing significant damage to crops due to frost. Producers have warned consumers, stating that losses in the fields will increase vegetable prices by at least 50 percent.
As temperatures dropped below zero, agricultural frost affected cultivated farmland, leading to major product losses. Ahencan Tayakısı, Head of the Adana Branch of the Chamber of Agricultural Engineers, stated that vegetables in the fields have frozen and that this situation will be reflected in consumer prices next week, with vegetable prices expected to rise by at least 50 percent.

FARMERS SUFFERED LOSSES, CROP DAMAGE IS EXTENSIVE
Speaking to TGRT Haber, Tayakısı noted that temperatures dropped as low as minus 8 degrees, dealing a heavy blow to agricultural producers. "Currently, only winter vegetables are in the open fields. Leeks, spinach, and various greens have completely frozen. Since these are leafy vegetables, they have been severely damaged by the cold, and the crop in the field has been wiped out," he said.
IT WILL ALSO AFFECT CONSUMERS: PRICES WILL INCREASE BY AT LEAST 50 PERCENT
Emphasizing that this loss in vegetable supply will directly impact prices, Tayakısı said, "While producers are experiencing income loss because they cannot harvest their crops, consumers will also be negatively affected by rising prices as products become scarce in the market. Although the damage to greenhouse-grown products like tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers is slightly lower, there is still a loss of around 50 percent."
Stating that the full effects of the agricultural frost have not yet emerged, Tayakısı emphasized that price increases will stem not only from product losses but also from rising diesel prices and transportation costs. "We will see the reflection on prices within the next week. An increase of at least 50 percent is expected," he warned consumers.
