AKOM issues 3-day heavy snow warning for Istanbul

The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) Disaster Coordination Center (AKOM) has warned citizens against heavy snowfall that will continue to affect the megacity until Sunday.

In its statement, AKOM said, "Due to the cold and rainy system expected to be effective in our region throughout the week, temperatures are expected to hover between -2 and 3°C. Precipitation, which will be seen as sleet and light snow today, is estimated to continue as heavy and, in some places, intense snowfall starting from Friday."

While it was stated that the cold wave would last throughout the weekend, it was reported that heavy snowfall would continue until Sunday.

Authorities advised citizens to be cautious against adverse weather conditions and not to take their private vehicles into traffic unless necessary.
