The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Department of Disaster Affairs and Risk Management, AKOM, has issued a warning for cool and rainy weather for Istanbul and the Marmara region. According to the assessment, the region is coming under the influence of a new weather system arriving via the Balkans.
AKOM's forecasts indicate that precipitation will be seen in local intervals on Saturday, and will increase in intensity starting from 18:00 on Sunday. The rainy weather is expected to continue throughout the coming week across Istanbul in the form of intermittent showers and, in some places, heavy downpours.
The wind is also expected to strengthen from northerly directions starting from Saturday afternoon. It was reported that the northeasterly wind could reach speeds of 30 to 60 kilometers per hour.
A significant drop in air temperatures is also expected alongside the strong northeasterly wind. It is estimated that temperatures, which have been hovering between 22-24 degrees, could drop to the 15-18 degree range, falling below seasonal norms.
Authorities advise citizens who will be going out over the weekend and at the beginning of the new week to be cautious against sudden downpours, strong winds, and temperature drops.
