Arson alarm in forest fires: Local residents catch another suspect red-handed!

The possibility of sabotage is gaining strength in the forest fires that have been ongoing for several days between the Orhaneli and Harmancık districts of Bursa. A development near the Çakmak neighborhood of Harmancık district has brought to the agenda that the fires were started intentionally rather than by natural causes.

CITIZENS CAUGHT HIM, THE ARSONIST ESCAPED

In footage captured by a citizen's mobile phone camera during the firefighting efforts, a person was seen trying to set fire to a brush area on the other side of the road. Local residents and gendarmerie teams who noticed the situation quickly headed to the area where the suspect was located. However, the individual fled the scene on foot. Despite a short chase, the suspect managed to lose his trail.

Security forces have launched a multi-faceted investigation to identify the person who fled. Whether the suspect has a direct connection to the fire, his ties to the local community, his background, and any other potential sabotage activities are being investigated.

Additionally, 4 people who started a forest fire by launching fireworks were also caught.

SOLDIER DISMISSED FROM FETÖ ALSO TURNED OUT TO BE AN ARSONIST

Another arson case was revealed yesterday (July 28) in Bursa, where forest fires are ongoing. It was learned that an individual named Ufuk A., who was dismissed from the Turkish Armed Forces due to FETÖ links, had intentionally started a forest fire and confessed after being taken into custody that he committed the crime because he "wanted to receive a life sentence."

Footage of Ufuk A. buying gasoline from a gas station where he worked some time ago, captured by security cameras, has also been included in the investigation file as evidence.

"EIA NOT REQUIRED" DECISION

Meanwhile, the "EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment) report not required" decision issued for an area in the region where a limestone quarry was previously planned has sparked public debate. The opposition has suggested that the consecutive fires in the region following this decision could be linked to a scenario of "deliberately clearing forest lands."
