Bad news for polluters: Penalty rates increased
The Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change has determined the administrative fines to be applied to those who pollute the environment in 2024. Accordingly, fines have been increased by 58.46 percent in line with the revaluation rate.
The communiqué of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change regarding administrative fines to be imposed in accordance with the Environmental Law No. 2872 has been published in today's Official Gazette.
INCREASE IN PENALTIES
Accordingly, the fines to be imposed in 2024 on individuals and organizations acting in violation of the relevant law have been increased by 58.46 percent, which is the revaluation rate. As of January 1, motor vehicle owners who do not have their exhaust gas emission measurements performed will pay a fine of 9 thousand 943 liras, and in cases where the same vehicle causes emissions contrary to the standards determined by regulations, they will pay a fine of 19 thousand 897 liras.
FINES UP TO 79 THOUSAND LIRAS!
A fine of 39 thousand 797 liras will be imposed on those who hold an Exhaust Gas Emission Authorization Certificate but continue to perform measurements despite being found to have lost the conditions regulated by the relevant regulation after authorization, or who perform measurements contrary to the technique and established rules. In addition, those who perform emission measurements without the documents stipulated by the regulations, those who falsify documents, and those who issue fake documents will be fined 79 thousand 611 liras.
