Bodrum Mayor Ahmet Aras issues 'water crisis' call: Bodrum is a part of the homeland you govern

The water crisis in Bodrum,one of Turkey's most popular tourism districts, is growing day by day.

Sharing his thoughts on the matter via his X account, Bodrum Mayor Ahmet Araslisted the reasons for the water crisis.

Pointing out that no precautions were taken for Bodrum in the past, Aras said, "As if this grave negligence were not enough, the massive water losses caused by faulty water pipes laid by the DSI (State Hydraulic Works) under the claim that they had solved Bodrum's water problem until 2040, and the unscrupulous allocation of Bodrum's drinking water to thermal power plants are other important reasons for the water shortage we are experiencing today." he stated.

"They are able to solve Cyprus's water problem, but they do not grant us permission to obtain mains water from the sea, which stands out as the quickest solution given that the drought in Bodrum is expected to continue in this manner," said Aras, addressing state officials.

Aras concluded his remarks as follows;

"If you grant us the authority to obtain mains water from the sea and do not hinder us in the subsequent processes, we will solve this problem of ours, provided that we also secure the financing. 

Please view this demand and reaction of ours as a justified reaction, just like your entirely justified reaction against Israel's refusal to provide water to Gaza. 

Because Bodrum is a part of the homeland you govern, and water is life. It is not a fantastic luxury."
