The brightest comet of the last 13 years captured in Niğde
Following the announcement by the Turkish Space Agency (TUA) that C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-Atlas, the brightest comet of the last 13 years, would be visible to the naked eye in October, photographers observed the sky to capture this special moment. The comet, which has been eagerly awaited by those interested in celestial events and is notable not only for its brightness but also for its impressive 21-degree-long tail, was captured by Niğde-based photographer Ömer Kilit.
The comet, which was announced to be visible to the naked eye from the Northern Hemisphere starting October 11 and expected to reach its closest point to Earth and its maximum brightness around October 12, was captured in the skies over Niğde on October 14.
Expressing his happiness at witnessing and having the chance to photograph one of the most impressive comet passages in history, photographer Ömer Kilit stated that astrophotographers have been keeping watch to capture this natural phenomenon, which they might only witness once in their lifetime.
Kilit said, "To observe and record this special moment, I first went to the Aladağlar region, which has no light pollution, but I could not see the bright comet there. While I was sitting on my balcony in the evening, I continued to observe; after watching the sky for about half an hour, I saw this special moment and immediately photographed it. I am happy to have witnessed and recorded this special celestial event."
