Domestic seed trial in Tokat: 450 kilos of yield expected per decare

The Pazar District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry has planted domestic cereal varieties obtained from the Bahri Dağdaş International Agricultural Research Institute. Farmers in the district contributed to production by sowing a total of 1750 kilograms of domestic bread wheat, barley, and oat seeds across 11 different varieties.

District Director of Agriculture and Forestry Emre Kapar stated that following the "Taner" variety wheat trials launched last year, domestic production trials will continue this year. Kapar noted that 12 producers are participating in the demonstration studies conducted with 11 seed varieties across 85 decares of land in the district center and 7 villages.

Kapar said they aim to find the most suitable seeds for the district by increasing the production of domestic varieties: "We will produce and win together with domestic and national seed varieties, including Selçuklu, Taner, Armağan, Bozkır, Savatra, Buhara, and Şehzade bread wheat varieties, Baykara and Ayrancı barley varieties, and Yazır and Kazan oats. Furthermore, we will carry out studies to increase product diversity with 4 varieties of oil sunflower seeds to be obtained from the Trakya Agricultural Research Institute, and Kale variety grain corn to be obtained from the Eastern Mediterranean Agricultural Research Institute, along with 5 varieties of chickpea and pea seeds."

Stating that they do not limit themselves to seed supply but provide technical support to producers at every stage from planting to harvest, Kapar said, "We are working with all our technical staff on the issue of domestic and national agriculture. We are always by our producers' side to move Pazar's agriculture further forward."

"WE EXPECT 450 KILOS OF WHEAT"

Ahmet Macit, who has been farming in Kaledere village for 30 years, stated that he planted domestic bread wheat seeds in his field in the village. Macit expressed his hope to obtain high yields and quality products from the domestic seeds provided to them by the District Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry. "We have currently planted Selçuklu and Armağan wheat seeds in an 8-decare area. In our other 8-decare field, we planted Taner and Bozkır wheat for trial purposes. We are testing these seeds on a total area of 16 decares. We expect 450 kilos of wheat per decare, and hopefully, we will achieve this yield at harvest time. We want to produce more efficiently and with higher quality by using domestic seeds," he said.
