Endangered otter spotted in Yedigöller: Hunting penalty is 100,000 TL
The Eurasian otter, seen in Bolu's Yedigöller National Park, is one of the species that indicates the health of clean water ecosystems.
In Derin Göl, located within the borders of Yedigöller National Park in Bolu, an endangered Eurasian otter was recorded with a mobile phone camera.
Visitors walking along the shore of the lake noticed the otter moving on the water. The animal, which swam in the lake for a while, was later seen coming ashore and disappearing into the reeds.
SPECIES IS ENDANGERED
The Eurasian otter (Lutra lutra) is among the species whose population is under pressure in Turkey. The penalty for hunting this species is applied as 100,000 TL for the 2025-2026 hunting season.
According to experts, since otters live dependently on clean water sources, their presence in a region is considered an important indicator of the health of the ecosystem in that area. Habitat loss, water pollution, and illegal hunting are cited as the main threats the species faces.
