While snowy weather continues across much of the country, producers in the Datça district of Muğla are counting down the days to begin the season's first green almond harvest. The first products collected from early-blooming almond trees are being purchased from producers at wholesale prices between 600 and 700 lira. However, the retail price in major cities like Istanbul and Izmir ranges from 2,000 to 2,500 lira per kilogram.

First green almond harvest begins in Datça: 700 lira for producers, 2,500 lira for consumers

In the Datça district, located at the junction of the Aegean and Mediterranean, almond trees that began to bloom in January following a mild winter have started to bear their first fruits. Early-blooming almond trees in Datça's Palamutbükü, Reşadiye, Mesudiye, and Yaka neighborhoods have shed their blossoms and begun to produce fruit.

As almond trees in the Palamutbükü neighborhood yield their first green almonds, producers are expecting a high yield due to favorable weather conditions. While producers are selling their first green almond products wholesale for between 600 and 700 lira, the retail price of these products in major cities like Istanbul and Izmir ranges between 2,000 and 2,200 lira.

Muhittin Direk, a green almond producer in Datça, stated that they experienced a very rainy winter this year, saying, "With the weather going well, our green almonds matured early and the harvest has begun. Currently, the wholesale price is around 600-700 lira. In places like Izmir and Istanbul, they are finding buyers for between 2,000 and 2,500 lira. We think the yield will be high this year because the season went very well and the rainfall was sufficient. Hopefully, our producers will earn good profits this year," he said.
