Foreign national attempted to smuggle sacks of giant onion plants: 387 thousand 141 lira fine imposed!
An Iranian national caught attempting to take Allium giganteum (giant onion) plants out of the country through Van's Saray Kapıköy Customs Gate has been fined 387 thousand 141 lira.
Van's Saray District Kapıköy Customs Enforcement, Smuggling and Intelligence Directorate personnel caught an Iranian national attempting to take a large number of Allium giganteum (giant onion) plants out of the country in 4 sacks.
It was determined that a large number of plants, both with and without bulbs, had been collected in a way that damaged nature, and all the plants were seized by teams from the Van Central Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks.
All the seized plants were delivered to Van Yüzüncü Yıl University Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Fevzi Özgöçe to be replanted in the Geophyte garden.
An administrative fine of 387 thousand 141 TL was imposed on the individual for destroying biodiversity.
