Forest fire in Silifke, Mersin largely brought under control
It has been reported that the forest fire that has been ongoing for 3 days in the Silifke district of Mersin has been largely brought under control. It was also announced that the intensity of the fire that started yesterday in the Anamur district has decreased.
In the Silifke district of Mersin, the fire that broke out the day before yesterday near the Kırtıl Hill Watchtower, between the Çaltı (Çamlıca), Baslandız, and Kırtıl neighborhoods, and spread to the forest, was intervened with from the ground and air by over a thousand personnel arriving from 7 provinces.
Due to the fire, 984 households in 6 neighborhoods were evacuated, 1,851 people were relocated, and 53 houses were damaged. It was reported that the fire was largely brought under control on its third day.
Today, it was announced that control was largely achieved through interventions at two separate points: the Kocapınar location between the Bahçederesi and Çadırlı neighborhoods, and the Yokuşbaşı location in the Akdere neighborhood, where the fire had been continuing.
FIRE INTENSITY REDUCED IN ANAMUR
The fire, which started in a garden in the central location of the Korucuk neighborhood in the Anamur district of Mersin around 15:45 yesterday, spread to the forest area in a short time and grew. Following the incident, forestry teams dispatched to the region intervened in the fire both from the air and from the ground.
By the decision of the Governor's Office, the Ovabaşı neighborhood was evacuated as a precautionary measure. It was stated that the intensity of the fire has decreased as a result of the intensive interventions that have been ongoing since yesterday. It was reported that the goal is to bring the fire completely under control with the work of the teams that will continue throughout the day.
It was stated that reinforcement teams from various institutions from Adana, Osmaniye, Hatay, Konya, Antalya, Niğde, and Karaman, as well as from Mersin's center and its districts, provided support for the forest fires in the two separate regions.

The General Directorate of Forestry also made a statement regarding the fires. The statement said, "We have brought Adana Aladağ under control. We have largely achieved control in Mersin Silifke, Hatay Hassa, and Antakya. We have reduced the energy of Mersin Anamur. Our struggle continues to bring all the fires across our country under control."
