Agricultural frost hits 34 provinces: How will farmers' losses be covered? Minister Yumaklı announces

Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı made statements regarding farmers affected by the cold wave that swept across Turkey last week.

Highlights from Yumaklı's statements are as follows:

"Damage assessments began immediately. We went out into the field following the warnings issued last Tuesday. We even encouraged our producers to go from the coffeehouses where they were sitting to their fields. Physical conditions must mature for damage assessment studies to be conducted.

"STATEMENTS LIKE 'THE MARKET WILL BURN' ARE NOT ACCURATE"

I need to open a parenthesis here. We see people making sweeping statements with data that even we do not possess. They may have their own expertise, but the messages given do not contain responsibility. These are of no benefit to us or our producers. There is no need to confuse our producers with generalizations.

Statements such as 'there will be a food problem in our country,' 'we are ruined,' or 'the market will burn' are not accurate. It was very effective in some places. It was less effective in others. All of this is possible through the healthy execution of damage assessments.

34 of our provinces were affected to varying degrees. Fruit orchards were particularly affected. I invite these individuals to be responsible.

HOW WILL PAYMENTS BE MADE?

Our President has already announced it, and I will share the details:

Following the damage assessment studies, payments for those with insurance will be made immediately.

Again, following the assessment studies, we will also cover the costs of our farmers who are registered in the Farmer Registration System (ÇKS) but do not have insurance.
