The General Directorate of Meteorology has issued yellow and orange code warnings for 17 provinces in its weather forecast report for December 21. According to the latest forecasts by the General Directorate of Meteorology, the country is expected to be partly to very cloudy, with intermittent precipitation expected in the Marmara, Aegean, Western Mediterranean, western Central Anatolia, Western Black Sea regions, as well as the surroundings of Mersin, Adana, Osmaniye, Nevşehir, Niğde, Yozgat, Çorum, Hakkari, Şırnak, Mardin, Siirt, and Batman, and the coasts of Hatay.
Precipitation is expected to be in the form of sleet and snow in the surroundings of Hakkari and Şırnak, and rain and showers, with occasional thunderstorms in other areas; precipitation is expected to be heavy in the Marmara, Aegean, Western Mediterranean, northwestern Central Anatolia, and the surroundings of Bolu and Düzce.
Icing and frost are expected in the inner and eastern parts of our country, along with haze and occasional fog.
Air temperatures are expected to decrease slightly in the western parts with the precipitation and remain around seasonal norms across the country.
YELLOW AND ORANGE CODE WARNINGS FOR 17 PROVINCES
The MGM issued a yellow code warning for Afyonkarahisar, Balıkesir, Burdur, Çanakkale, Denizli, Edirne, Isparta, Kırklareli, Konya, Kütahya, Manisa, Tekirdağ, and Uşak, while an orange code storm warning was issued for the provinces of Antalya, Aydın, İzmir, and Muğla.
ERBAIN COLD IS COMING TO ISTANBUL
According to assessments by meteorological experts, air temperatures in Istanbul are expected to drop suddenly by 8 to 12 degrees between December 22 and January 30, and the city will experience the coldest days of winter, known as 'Erbain'.
WHAT IS ERBAIN COLD?
This period, popularly known as 'Erbain' or 'Zemheri', is known as the coldest days of winter. According to historical sources, during this process, cold foods such as yogurt were avoided to protect against the cold, and measures were taken to stay warm. Air temperatures in Istanbul are projected to remain 1-3 degrees below seasonal norms until December 31.

It is expected to be partly to very cloudy, with intermittent rain and showers across the region, and occasional thunderstorms in the surroundings of Çanakkale and Balıkesir. Precipitation is expected to be heavy in some places. The wind is expected to blow from southern directions, strong and occasionally reaching short-term storm levels (40-70 km/h) in the surroundings of Çanakkale and Balıkesir.
