Good news for residents of İzmir! Returning to normal after months...
Planned water cuts, which have been in effect in 13 districts of İzmir since August 6, 2025, due to drought, have been lifted as of today following an increase in dam occupancy rates.
The İZSU General Directorate has announced that the planned and rotating water cuts, which have been ongoing since August of last year due to drought conditions, have come to an end. The statement reported that the practice was terminated after water levels in the dams entered a recovery process following recent rainfall.
Heavy rainfall across the city has enabled water levels to rise in the Tahtalı Dam Basin, which is İzmir's primary source of drinking water. This development has allowed for a more balanced management of the city's water supply.
LEVELS RECOVERING AT TAHTALI
The amount of rainfall recorded in the city center since January has reached 330 kilograms per square meter. The Tahtalı Dam, which had seen its active occupancy rate drop to 0.13 percent on December 30, 2025, has reached an occupancy rate of 14.88 percent following the recent rains. Similar increases in water levels have been recorded in other dams as well.
NIGHTTIME CUTS LIFTED
According to the statement from İZSU, the planned and rotating water cuts that were implemented between 23:00 and 05:00 in the districts of Karabağlar, Konak, Bornova, Balçova, Narlıdere, Güzelbahçe, Buca, Gaziemir, Karşıyaka, Çiğli, Bayraklı, Menemen, and Menderes will end as of tonight. Officials emphasized that unless water levels in the dams drop to critical levels again, a similar practice is not on the agenda.
