Life-and-death struggle in İzmir fire: Dikili Mayor Adil Karagöz speaks to 12punto

A fire broke out for an as-yet-undetermined reason in a wooded area in the Çandarlı neighborhood of İzmir's Dikili district.

Upon notification, 4 aircraft, 5 helicopters, 11 fire trucks, 5 water supply vehicles, 3 bulldozers, and 2 ground crews affiliated with the İzmir Regional Directorate of Forestry were dispatched to the scene.

The Mavikent housing complex, which was threatened by the flames as they spread due to the wind, was evacuated.

The Çandarlı-Denizköy highway was also closed to traffic due to the fire.

As the fire in Çandarlı, İzmir, spread to some houses, those homes were evacuated.

Dikili Mayor Adil Karagöz, who described the latest situation in the fire zone to 12punto, stated that the fire had moved away from residential areas and spread into the forest, and that it was being fought with 9 aircraft, fire crews from the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, and water tankers from the Dikili Municipality. Reporting that some homes were evacuated during the fire, Karagöz said, "Three of our houses were partially damaged. There is no loss of life. I hope we will have better news shortly."
