MAPEG announces: 1 billion 260 million TL in fines issued during mining inspections

MAPEG conducted 8 thousand 828 inspections of mining license areas in 2023.

As a result of the examinations, administrative fines amounting to 1 billion 260 million Turkish Lira were imposed. Due to the irregularities detected, a total of 2 thousand 421 decisions to suspend operations were issued.

MINING EXPLORATION

While debates continue regarding the landslide that occurred at a mine in the İliç district of Erzincan, the areas where mining activities can be conducted have also come back onto the agenda.

In Turkey, which is quite rich in underground mines, mining exploration is not permitted in 1st-degree archaeological and natural protected areas or 1st-degree military forbidden zones.

Wildlife protection and development areas, as well as national parks, are also among the places where mining is prohibited.

Other regions where mining activities are not permitted include strictly protected sensitive areas, areas that must be protected under the Coastal Law, culture and tourism protection and development regions, nature conservation areas, special environmental protection zones, cultural assets requiring protection, qualified natural protected areas, and nature parks.
